On October 5, 1974, Rick Hattori began delivering meals for Meals on Wheels. What started as a simple act of service became a 52-year commitment to showing up—week after week—for neighbors across our community.
Rick’s dedication is measured not only in miles and hours, but in trust built over time. Over five decades, he drove more than 19,000 miles and volunteered nearly 4,000 hours, delivering nourishment, safety checks, and connection to thousands of older adults and neighbors in need.
His route became a place where generations met. Rick brought his daughter along, and later his grandchildren—clients watching those children grow, just as Rick remained a steady presence at their door. Through consistency and care, he became more than a volunteer; he became part of the fabric of the community.
As Rick completed his final home delivered meal route in 2025, he left behind something lasting. His legacy lives on in every meal delivered, every door opened, and every volunteer inspired by his example.
From all of us at Meals on Wheels, thank you, Rick—for 52 years of service, kindness, and commitment that will never be forgotten.
