Pacific Grove, Calif. – December 9, 2021 – Meals on Wheels of the Monterey Peninsula (MOWMP) announced today it has partnered with Robert Louis Stevenson (RLS) – a coeducational, private school for boarding and day students – to provide homebound seniors across the Monterey Peninsula with special holiday care packages.
More than 30 Pirate Parent Club volunteers joined MOWMP’s executive director – and RLS alumna – Christine Winge, to assemble 350 packages comprised of items like toilet paper, soap, hand sanitizer, facial tissue, crossword puzzle books, pens, holiday decorations, and more.
“The holidays are often a time of loneliness for homebound seniors, who can feel forgotten while others celebrate happy traditions with family. Along with our friends at RLS, we helped change that,” says Winge.
Families of boarding students hailing from 15 U.S. states and 17 nations contributed to the care packages by mailing in items as part of the Club’s fall community service program.
This community partnership is dedicated to helping the most vulnerable older adults feel loved and appreciated. For many, this gift will be the only present they receive this holiday season. Not only does it provide everyday necessities that clients can’t always afford or get themselves, but it also brings holiday cheer and smiles. This holiday season, local homebound seniors need support more than ever.
Winge continues, “This program is just the beginning of a broader partnership with RLS that could focus on food justice and understanding the systemic causes of senior hunger including raising awareness about our programs, writing letters to seniors, and strengthening leadership skills together.”
“This partnership holds a special place for me and, collectively, we found hope and joy in building this program. I know our homebound clients will deeply appreciate the packages provided by the community at RLS,” Winge concludes.
