CLASSIQUE GALA – Where Elegance Meets Generosity. Learn More

Pacific Grove, Calif. – August 8, 2023 – Meals on Wheels of the Monterey Peninsula (MOWMP) announced the launch of its Healthy Nutrition Sponsorship campaign in support of its Home Delivered Meals (HDM) program serving homebound seniors, disabled adults, veterans, and other underserved populations on the Monterey Peninsula.

MOWMP’s HDM program has grown by 106% over the past three years due in part to the growth in Monterey County’s senior population, among other factors.

The HDM program now offers other support services in addition to the delivery of freshly prepared meals and socialization for homebound clients. HDM’s Pet Meals program has grown 96% over the past year, serving clients and their pets through the delivery of nutritious food and veterinary care. Also, the new Home Heart Heroes program serves homeowner clients through small-scale safety and ADA-related upgrades such as handrails, ramps, lighting, and more.

“As the demand for our services continues to grow, we’ve developed new strategies and programs to ensure that we can meet the needs of seniors, veterans, the disabled, and other underserved populations in our area,” says Christine Winge, MOWMP’s executive director. “While our Home Delivered Meals program is the most well-known aspect of our work, it’s just one of the many ways we support our clients with more than a meal.”

To wrap this year’s Healthy Nutrition Sponsorship campaign, an exclusive event will be hosted at the Meals on Wheels Community Center in partnership with the Monterey Bay Fisheries Trust (MBFT). The Get Hooked Dinner Series will be presented Thursday, September 7th from 5pm to 8pm and feature local and sustainably harvested seafood donated by the MBFT. Wine pairings will be provided by Wrath Wines.

Winge continues, “We’ve been able to expand our services beyond meal delivery and are proud to be a trusted partner in the community. We look forward to continuing our good work and addressing the needs of those facing food-insecurity.”
