Pacific Grove, Calif. – May 26, 2022 – Meals on Wheels of the Monterey Peninsula (MOWMP) announced today it has partnered with the Hayward Foundation to install a new Dedicated Indoor Air System (DIAS) at the Meals on Wheels Community Center (MOWCC) in Pacific Grove.
“Improving the air quality and supporting the healthiest possible indoor environment for our guests is essential,” said Christine Winge, the agency’s executive director. “Over the past year, we have taken steps to provide peace of mind for members of our community and with the support of the Hayward Foundation, this project allows us to proactively optimize air quality as needed and help reduce risk, ensuring the healthiest possible environment in the Center.”
One of the most important aspects of maintaining a healthy environment is to supply an area with as much outdoor air as possible. The system completely replenishes the air in the Center with fresh, coastal air up to six times per hour, resulting in near hospital-grade air quality.
Winge continues, “This system will help provide the most healthful environment for our senior members, group diners, program participants, volunteers, and staff who will immediately reap the benefits of the system.”
The CDC recently updated its guidance to acknowledge that most viruses, including COVID-19, are primarily spread through the air, and while research has supported this guidance for many years, the formal recognition by the CDC shifts the focus of safety guidelines from disinfecting surfaces to improving ventilation. Also, the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Engineers recently issued recommendations on air filtration and using
Winge concludes, “The largest percentage of Monterey County seniors live in the area we serve, and we’ve been hard at work over the past year improving the Center. We are aligned in our belief that indoor air management is an essential factor for maintaining the health of anyone in our building.”
