Pacific Grove, Calif. – June 24, 2021 – Meals on Wheels of the Monterey Peninsula (MOWMP) announced today the reopening of its newly remodeled Meals on Wheels Community Center (MOWCC) in Pacific Grove.
“Our top priorities for reopening are the health, safety, and comfort of those who visit our Center,” says Christine Winge, MOWMP’s executive director. She continues, “For 35 years, the Center has been a second home for members of our community, where people can connect and spend time with friends and family. Now, coming together will require all of us to do our part to remain safe.”
For the time being, visitors at the MOWCC will be required to wear masks while indoors. MOWMP relies on guidance and recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control, the California Department of Public Health, and the Monterey County Health Department and has crafted its reopening plan to include enhanced health and safety protocols that go above and beyond current requirements.
The reopening of the MOWCC brings a sense connectedness and joy to its members. The Center has undergone several major donor-sponsored renovation projects including new interior and exterior paint, new flooring, upgraded furniture, a garden refresh, and updated restrooms. Its new name promotes the Center’s ability to attract a broad range of community members and maintain its vitality and diversity.
“Our community has been sheltered for a very long time and the lack of socialization has taken a toll on many,” Winge says. “Like all of us, our socially-active group at MOWCC has suffered from loneliness and depression as a result of not being able to connect with loved ones, and we are excited to welcome them back.”
MOWCC serves more than 1,000+ people – most of them over 60 – and offers more than 25,000 hours a year of programs ranging from group dining to health and wellness classes to special events.
Due to the variety of programs and activities at the Center, some may remain suspended until they can resume safely. Members and prospective program participants are encouraged to visit mowmp.org for more information. MOWCC procedures and guidelines may change and evolve to reflect new and updated government guidance and expectations.
